Let's take a trip down memory lane. On Monday, September 16, 2002, Soror Virna Springer called the parents of Ashley London, Alexis Nicholson, Elexus Knox, Karis Bamba, Nia Brunson, Seleah Sheares, and Sherise Clark, and told these mothers about this amazing youth club. On Saturday, October 26, 2002, the Sigma Kappa Zeta Chapter Amicette Club was charted. They held their first meeting with their parents and members of the Sigma Kappa Zeta Chapter at the Clinton Hill Public Library. This meeting birth something beyond everyone's imagination.

In their first year, the club hosted community service projects and programs such as;

  • God's Love We Deliver/Race for Deliver

  • Holiday performances at Cobble Hill Nursing Home and Henry Street Settlement

  • Book drive at the Clinton Hills Library

  • A Blanket Drive for children at Rose S. Kennedy mother/baby shelter

They continued their humanitarian efforts for the next four years by collecting new/gently used clothing and water for hurricane relief victims in the Caribbean, a shoe drive for Jamaica and Haiti, and a toy drive for Deaf Children at NY Foundling and Children at SUNY Downstate Hospital. They also hosted a few fundraisers such as roller skating, ice skating, and bowling.

We have three traditional ceremonies, the first is our Mother/Daughter tea ceremony where new members are pinned by members of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. Second is our father/Daughter formal dance. Lastly, we host a Rites of Passage program for our young ladies who turned 13 to celebrate their last year as an Amicette.

You see, no matter what was happening in the world, the Sigma Kappa Zeta Chapter Amicette Club never stopped making a difference in the world.

Fun fact: The Sigma Kappa Zeta Chapter Amicette Club's first chant was written by one of Sigma Kappa Zeta Chapter's charter member, Ms. Karen Gooden. Twenty years later, they are still doing the chant with pride and honor. The Amicette club's charter members were the game changers and they set the stage that brought us here today.
